Bass – Nicholas Skotzko

Nicholas Skotzko, a baritone from Vienna, Virginia has been described as “mellifluous” and “smooth” in his singing by the South Florida Classical Review. Skotzko started his musical training while living overseas with his parents, and later attended the Washington National Opera Institute in 2015. In 2020, Skotzko earned his Bachelor of Music Degree in Vocal Performance from The University of Oklahoma and in May of 2022 received his Master of Music in Vocal Performance from The University of Miami’s Frost School of Music. During his six years of collegiate training Skotzko studied with Verdi baritone Kim Josephson and continues to do so as he pursues an Artist Diploma at the University of Miami.

Most recently, Skotzko joined Opera North in New Hampshire for their 2022 Summer Season as one of their resident artists. While at Opera North, Skotzko sang the role of Don Alfonso in Così fan tutte, and the role of Il Barone in La Traviata.  In March 2022, Skotzko debuted the role of Don Onofrio in the World Premiere of The Leopard by Michael Dellaira with libretto by J. D. McClatchy. Past credits include: Orphée in Les Malheurs d’Orphée, David in Hand of Bridge, Don Alfonso in Così fan tutte, King Dodon in The Golden Cockerel, King Bertarido in Rodelinda, Chair and Tree in L’enfant et les Sortilèges, and the Father in Hansel and Gretel.

Concert solo work includes Faure’s Requiem, The Messiah, Voices of Light, and Duruflé’s Requiem. Of important note, Skotzko sang the baritone solo in the Polish Premiere of Voices of Light in the summer of 2019 in Legnica, Poland.
